This Clinical Attachment in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine is designed to provide healthcare professionals with structured clinical exposure to specialist respiratory services, focusing on the diagnosis and management of acute and chronic lung conditions in children and young people within a hospital setting.
Program Focus
The program is designed to enhance participants' knowledge of paediatric respiratory health through supervised clinical exposure. This includes:
Chronic Lung Disease and Asthma Management: Exposure to specialist asthma clinics, wheeze management, and chronic lung disease of prematurity, focusing on personalized action plans, inhaler technique education, and the use of biologic therapies in pediatric populations.
Cystic Fibrosis and Bronchiectasis Care: Insight into the multidisciplinary management of cystic fibrosis and non-CF bronchiectasis, including respiratory physiotherapy, nutritional support, long-term antibiotic stewardship, and the transition of care to adult services.
Diagnostic Investigations and Sleep Medicine: Observation of diagnostic procedures such as lung function testing (spirometry, FeNO), flexible bronchoscopy, and the evaluation of sleep-disordered breathing through polysomnography and non-invasive ventilation (NIV) monitoring.
Expected Outcome
Upon completion of the clinical attachment, participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of paediatric respiratory services within an NHS hospital in the UK. The program aims to strengthen theoretical knowledge, improve familiarity with specialist diagnostic pathways, and enhance understanding of multidisciplinary best practices in paediatric lung health within the UK healthcare system.
