Clinical Attachment in Breast surgery UK
Application is open throughout the year
This Clinical Attachment in Breast Surgery is designed to provide healthcare professionals with structured clinical exposure to oncoplastic and reconstructive breast services, focusing on the multidisciplinary management of breast disease within an NHS hospital setting.
Program Focus
The program is designed to enhance participants' knowledge of breast surgical care through supervised clinical exposure. This includes:
Triple Assessment and Outpatient Clinics: Exposure to one-stop breast clinics, including clinical examination, interpretation of imaging such as mammography and ultrasound, and observing core biopsy techniques for suspected malignancies.
Operative Breast Surgery: Insight into the operating theatre for procedures such as wide local excision, mastectomy, sentinel lymph node biopsy, and axillary clearance, including the use of wire or seed localization techniques.
Oncoplastic and Reconstructive Techniques: Understanding the principles of breast conservation, therapeutic mammoplasty, and immediate or delayed reconstruction using implants or autologous tissue flaps.
Expected Outcome
Upon completion of the clinical attachment, participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of breast surgical services within an NHS hospital in the UK. The program aims to strengthen theoretical knowledge of breast oncology, improve familiarity with surgical workflows, and enhance understanding of integrated care pathways for breast cancer patients.
